Episode Description

As a Patent Searcher or Patent Information Professional, you’re often judged not only by what you found—the results of your search—but also by how you approached the project. What was your strategy? What databases and search tools did you use? What steps did you take? How did you choose which references to review and which to skip? With traditional Boolean search, it’s straightforward to include lists of queries and filters used to identify the exact number of hits for each. It’s easy to reproduce these steps and defend them if needed.

Many practitioners are now using AI or ML-based search tools to supplement their search or replace Boolean search altogether. But, this poses a challenge: how do you explain what “you” did? How do you document the steps you took, and how do you decide which references to review? Finally, how do you explain what the algorithm found and why?

During this panel discussion, we’ll debate the questions above, share personal experiences from several experts, and share the perspective of a vendor trying to solve these problems. We’ll also have plenty of opportunities for audience participation. We look forward to seeing you there!
