How the Machine Doesn’t Learn – It Matters When You do Your Search

These are the slides from a presentation on September 30 2021 by Sander de Vrieze an Intellectual Property Consultant for CENTEXBEL given at the 26th CEPIUG User Group Meeting.

Abstract: Finding the right document has always been a challenge. Over the last years, AI and semantic tools are more and more present to assist in patent searches. These black box tools can easily help us in searching, however, this presentation shows that dependent on when you do your search, the black box gives you other results.

Dr. de Vrieze raised some concerns about changes that are made with some machine learning systems over time and how this can impact the results set generated if the same search is run at different times.
